Amanda was born in Seattle in July 1987. Amanda was studying abroad in Perugia in Italy as an University of Washington student in 2007. On November 1, 2007, Amanda's roommate Meredith Kercher as found dead on the floor in her bedroom. Amanda as well as Raffaele Sollecito who was her boyfriend were detained and charged with the murder of Kercher. Knox was adamant about her innocence and spent almost four years in jail. Her conviction was announced in 2014 and sentenced to 28 years of prison. The Court of Cassation in Italy was the highest court, and decided Knox and Sollecito free of any responsibility for the murder. It was technically proven that she was guilty, but cleared twice. The Italian Supreme Court ordered the appeals trial to be heard after she returned to the United States. In 2015 she was definitively exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court.She began working as a reporter for The West Seattle Herald in 2014. In February of this year, Amanda became engaged to her former acquaintance Colin Sutherland.
